WHAT IS IT?
An evening of mingling aimed at those working in or aiming for a career in the media sector (specifically television)… come and drink, network, seek advice, give advice, make contacts, share contacts, take part in a Q&A with leading industry experts, make new friends and hopefully, have a good time!
EVERYBODY WELCOME – do not be shy!
If you are a new entrant wishing to find a way in, a junior member of staff looking for advice on how to step up or an expert seeking new talent/ new opportunities/ wishing to share the wealth of your ways, or, someone working in/wanting to work in the industry and just fancying a pint and some banter, then #tvmingling is for you!
The event will take place from 1800 hours at:
Freedom Bar (the basement)
66 Wardour Street
Please aim to arrive between 1800 and 1845 hours for an informal ice breaking mingle activity – and drinks!
There will be a panel led informal Q&A from 1900 hours and the doors will be closed at this point – although you may discreetly be able to squeeze in!
The panel will be made up of:
Jude Winstanley – The Unit List and Senior Production Manager – event co-host
Lou Gallagher – #tvmingling creator and Production Manager
Simon Wright and Don Kong – BBC Production Talent Pool
The Q&A session will last for a maximum of 45 minutes – as the focus of this event is to mingle: swapping stories with peers, swapping numbers with potential future work colleagues and swapping tips with those working in the same area as you. Please note – historically questions tend to come from the more junior end of the audience about breaking in to television and stepping up – however all questions are welcome, and we will try to keep it as useful to all as possible.
There will also be #tvmingling ‘ambassadors’ in attendance: these are guests who have volunteered to mingle with you and answer specific questions you might have, relevant to their expertise – i.e. sound, casting, cameras, archive research, etc.
The bar will be open from 1800 hours – with a happy hour til 2100 including a 54321 special with drinks at £5, £4, £3, £2 and £1! Soft and alcoholic covered.
There will be a photographer present on the night to capture some memories – and if you would like copies of your photos please just sign up to the Facebook group.
I am really looking forward to seeing you all – and hope you find #tvmingling a fun and useful event. Please do remember – this is an informal event, as such there is no dress code, no pressure to give/receive CVs and business cards (although you are welcome to swap!), there are no fixed vacancies and no fixed agendas. We want you to come and do what it says on the tin… mingle!
TV is a really rewarding place to work – and I look forward to celebrating all of our hopes and successes together on Wednesday.
See you there!
