Political Producer – Good Morning Britain
12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Good Morning Britain is looking for a dynamic journalist to work on Britain’s most talked about breakfast show. We need someone with determination and journalistic flair to deliver compelling political news to our millions of viewers each morning.

The role
Politics is at the very heart of our show, and as Political Producer you’ll be expected to be immersed in the workings of Parliament, Holyrood, Cardiff and Stormont. You’ll work closely with our Head of Politics to identify key stories and come up with innovative ideas to help tell them in an engaging way.

You’ll book leading political figures, uncover new lines and write briefs for our presenters. You’ll cover breaking stories and plan major events like conferences, referendums and elections.

Our office and studio are in West London, but you will be required to work out of Westminster on some days and will be expected to travel to events, party conferences and occasionally some foreign trips. You may be required to work late nights and early mornings when necessary around political events and key interviews. You will also need a willingness and ability to cover general UK and World news according to the news agenda. The shift pattern includes Sundays.

The ideal candidate

This is a demanding role and we need someone with drive and ambition to fill it. We set high standards and this role requires accuracy and attention to detail. You will already be a professional journalist with experience of working in a busy newsroom. You’ll have a thorough understanding of the stories that shape the political agenda and a great political contacts book to match. Experience covering politics is essential, and a background in broadcast television will be an advantage.

You’ll be able to write clear and concise briefs for presenters and be able to confidently represent Good Morning Britain at events and when talking to political figures. You’ll be hugely passionate about politics and translating its complexities for our audience with imaginative ideas for creating compelling content. You’ll be an excellent team player, willing to support your colleagues and work closely with the Politics and Input teams.

You will have a qualification in journalism or a provable track record of working in a professional environment as a journalist. You will also be confident in your knowledge of media law, compliance and Ofcom regulations particularly regarding political balance. A track record of securing exclusive political stories will be an advantage.
Closing date for applications: Monday 11th July 2022
