Course Leader, Script Supervising Part time
For half a century, the National Film and Television School (NFTS) has developed some of Britain and the world’s top creative talent.  It is widely acknowledged to be the top school of its kind in the UK and one of the best internationally.
We are now recruiting for a Course Leader – Script Supervision.
Our Script Supervision and Continuity for Film and Television course is delivered in partnership with the BBC over three months and helps participants develop their skills as a script supervisor including practical experience on film shoots and TV shows, and lectures on how to use ScriptE and BBC Scriptwriter.  We are currently recruiting for a new Course Leader to manage the delivery of this course. The ideal applicant is likely to be an experienced Script Supervisor with significant experience of supporting production teams and working on films and TV shows, and educated to Master’s level with experience of teaching.
Applicants need to be excellent communicators possessing strong interpersonal skills and a passion for student learning.

Purpose of role:
The purpose of the role is to oversee the Script Supervision & Continuity for Film and Television course in partnership with the BBC.
As Course Leader – Script Supervision you will:
Impart knowledge to and inspire the next generation of script supervisors.
Take part in the selection of students from recruiting assessment panels, through assessing material submitted by applicants for the full-time course in his/her area, to interviewing and selecting shortlisted candidates to ensure the most talented students secure a place at the NFTS and that, once selected, they are supported pastorally.


Monitor and assess the work of each individual student and maintain appropriate records in accordance with NFTS requirements.  Attend reviews and discussions to make sure participants receive proper analysis of and feedback on all their work at each stage, together with practical recommendations for how to improve it.


Plan the delivery and implementation of the curriculum, ensuring the course evolves in line with industry practice and that the course continues to meet the needs of employers.


Teach a significant component of the course and recruit a diverse group of key tutors to supplement the curriculum where appropriate, keeping up-to-date contact lists and monitoring tutor performance.


Review the course budget with the School Management Accountant and maintain budgetary control, ensuring that the course keeps within its financial limits.


Play a leading role in ensuring students are well prepared for leaving the School by connecting them throughout their course with professional associations, production companies, agents etc.


Engage proactively with the School Marketing department to promote the subject area and to answer the questions of prospective students through open days, outreach events, taster days etc



This post would suit an experienced script supervisor with solid understanding, knowledge and practical experience of the industry.  Good current contacts with the (UK) film industry would be beneficial.
You should be educated to Master’s level and have experience of teaching.
You must be prepared and available to teach all students in the School.  An essential quality is the ability to recognise and foster potential talent, whilst also ensuring students reach the academic, technical and professional standards required of them.
You should also have the ability to engage with the other departments of the NFTS.  Collaboration is the key to successful work at the NFTS. Good interpersonal skills are therefore essential.
Course Leaders need to be adept at running their area smoothly and efficiently, with emphasis on forward planning.
Course Leaders are expected to maintain discipline and inspire enthusiasm amongst the students and staff for whom they are responsible and others that support their course.
