Head of Immersive – National Centre for Immersive Storytelling
Full-time, flexible working requests considered
12 month fixed term contract (Maternity Cover)
StoryFutures Academy (SFA) is the UK’s National Centre for Immersive Storytelling run by the
National Film and Television School (NFTS) and Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL). Funded
as part of UK Research and Innovation’s Audience of the Future industrial strategy challenge fund,
the Academy delivers cutting-edge creative training and research programmes to ensure the UK
creative workforce is the most skilled in the world in the use of VR, AR and MR for storytelling.
Through a range of initiatives such as Labs, Placements and Commissioned Productions, SFA brings
industry and education together to explore the creative and commercial possibilities of new
immersive technologies that places story at the centre. SFA is also proactively looking at exciting
new opportunities in adjacent fields such a Virtual Production.
This person will play a key role in leading and enabling the work of SFA, and delivering key projects
within its portfolio of work. This is therefore a unique opportunity for someone who is excited about
imparting their knowledge to and inspiring creative professionals to seize the opportunities
presented by Immersive, as well as somebody who isn’t afraid to work hands-on to develop practical
ways of getting things done.
This is a fundamental project for the NFTS involving high profile partners. Applicants therefore need
to be ambitious with the capability to deliver. Being an excellent communicator, possessing strong
interpersonal skills and a passion for learning will be critical to success.
The National Film and Television School, first established in 1971 by the UK government and film
industry, is recognised as the leading film and television school in the UK and is one of the most
respected film, television and new media schools in the world. The School was awarded the 2018
BAFTA for Outstanding Contribution to British Cinema and the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher
and Further Education.
