About us:


Machine Shop was established in 1993 and is formed by two companies: Special Effects and Special Projects. 


Special effects work primarily on adverts but also get involved in films and events either making things or making things happen. Special Projects do all the other jobs that involve unusual engineering, prototyping or things that we don’t know what else to call. 

We cover just about anything that needs making or doing; if it is interesting, we will get involved. We seldom do anything twice so each job provides fresh opportunities for heart attacks and exhilaration.


Job Overview

“We need someone to help co-ordinate all that we do. After 23 years this role has become available again, (we like to keep our staff!). It is an office based job but certainly nothing like a standard role. You will need to be extremely organised and able to spin many plates, look after a bunch of people more used to making things than worrying about the paperwork (think of herding cats), liaise with our clients and suppliers and generally be a lovely, but firm, ambassador for the company.

You are our ‘shop front’, the person that people get when they first contact us. You will get involved in our social media, website etc so being computer savvy is useful (though this is easy to learn and we will teach you the ropes). You need to be diligent and accurate with data entry, do the basic bookkeeping and ensure that we get paid by our customers, (or the kitty runs dry and we can’t afford the Champagne).

Perhaps someone who has had their fill of the freelance world or tired of being squeezed into a role that they want to expand. Get the basics right and then help us to steer the company to continued success in an ever changing world.

Start asap in perm role

Salary £27k. This is only where it starts, beyond that it is up to you and where you are able to take it.



Must have experience working as an Office Coordinator/Manager

Must have book keeping experience
